KOLKATA GETS FIRST FOOD ATM, A DECENT STEP TO MAKE HUNGER FREE SOCIETY.

Kolkata Now Has A Food ATM For The Underprivileged!

A food ATM has come to Kolkata, courtesy Sanjha Chulha, a famous restaurant in the city. Installed outside their eatery, the refrigerator is open to everyone who wishes to donate leftover food for those who go hungry.

Hunger is a global menace that threatens to snatch lives away. Every human has a right to satiate his hunger and Indians are doing everything in their power to make sure food reaches the needy. This noble drive came into being as part of a 'Hunger Free Kolkata' initiative in partnership with P.R.A.N.
A unique, innovative and incredibly useful and noble concept by Sanjha Chulha, this ATM, installed outside the restaurant, is meant for the public to donate leftovers instead of wasting them.
There is an astounding level of food wastage in this world, and India is no exception. Where millions live below the poverty line and barely survive on one meal a day, whenever we go out to eat, we either get the extra food packed or leave it behind at the restaurant. Even at home, we sometimes throw away excesses.

Now, you can make a two-fold difference to the world, thanks to Sanjha Chulha, CIT Road. It has installed a huge refrigerator, aka food ATM, where you can simply drop off any excess food you don’t want, either following a meal at the restaurant or from home/elsewhere.

'Food ATM', a 320-litre refrigerator laden with leftovers, is ensuring that the poor and needy in the city do not go hungry, thanks to an initiative by a restaurateur here. Asif Ahmed, the co-owner of Sanjha Chulha restaurant chain, started the 'Food ATM' with support of three organisations (Rotary, Round Table, JITO) in front of one of his outlets in Park Circus to help curb food wastage and feed the needy. The refrigerator installed comes with a camera to keep a track of the storage capacity. This helps people gauge the available capacity of the fridge before they donate. Apart from this, the restaurant is now planning to roll out meal packages as donations to the underprivileged. "It's a transparent door refrigerator that is used to store food items. We are educating our customers to pack the leftover food and donate it. In addition to the leftovers from our outlet, people of the city are coming and donating food. Biriyani and bread are some of the common items. They are putting in fresh food as well,"

The refrigerator is topped with a placard saying "the amount of food India wastes annually is enough to feed entire Egypt for a year".
"One doesn't need any card to access the food. It's just the hunger that lets one access what they need. We are getting a good response from locals," he said.
Mr. Asif Ahmed plans to extend the service to his other three outlets in the city as well. The initial investment was around Rs 50,000, including the cost of the refrigerator. The restaurant is also planning to come up with budget meal packages, available only as donations for the poor and needy.

The food ATM went live on August 15 because what better day to help the needy enjoy their freedom to eat?

LIGHTS IN THE DARK !

THE MAN WHO FELL TO THE EARTH !!

A man fell from space to Earth on 14th October 2012, breaks world record, and potentially the speed of sound.

He is best known for jumping to Earth from a helium balloon in the stratosphere. Doing so, he set world records for skydiving an estimated 39 km (24 mi), reaching an estimated top speed of 1,357.64 km/h (843.6 mph).

He became the first person to break the sound barrier without vehicular power relative to the surface on his descent.

His name is Felix Baumgartner and he, supported financially by sponsor Red Bull. He  had used climate-controlled capsule attached to a balloon nearly in space.

Baumgartner had jumped from 120,000 feet — outside the stratosphere — and was in transit via a large balloon (is anyone imagining the flying-house scene from ‘Up’?).The balloon was took off from Roswell, New Mexico, a fitting location given the region’s affinity for all things alien.

He had a team of engineers, medical staff, and even a skydiving consultant on the ground, walking him through the decent. His team also had includes the previous record holder, United States Airforce Colonel Joseph Kittinger, who jumped from 102,800 feet in the 1960s.

While he was risesing into the sky, his team was running through practice tests of procedures. and his family and hundreds of persons who were working with him on this project from several years were praying for his safe return to the earth surface.

let's jump and feels his experience !

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT KOLKATA ??

Its crazy mostly.
If you hail from some other metro cities like Delhi or Bangalore, KOLKATA won’t make any sense to you. We still have the age-old tram in the city which is pretty much unchanged for more than 100 years (since 1902). And make no mistake, it is the root of all traffic jam in the city.

Our corporation buses are archaeological relics.

This city is home to 5 million people. On any average day the streets of Kolkata will be crowded as hell and chances are you will be left stranded in between traffic.

But what sets Kolkata apart from other cities are its ethnicity and cultural history. It was the frontier of the cultural revolution in the British rule and you can see its remnants all over the city.
Public transport is insanely cheap. Bus tickets cost little or more than 7 bucks, ferries cost 10 bucks and metro is about 5–10 bucks. You can get around the city without putting a dent in your pocket.
The North and the South Kolkata feel miles apart in their appearance and essence. While the south has its old houses from British period and a flair for football, the north has seen rapid development and high rises over the years and feels like any other metro cities of India.

Kolkata is not progressive or dynamic like Bangalore or Delhi and its growth has been gradual. We, Bengali people are somehow still stuck in our nostalgia of the 80s and forgot to move on.
Alright, I’ll be honest now. This what I really think is special about Kolkata. Its the symbol of our city and nowhere else will you find a comparable beauty as this.
But what you really Love here then anywhere else :
Sports is a religion here. no matter what is the day, time, weather conditions or any occasion. we celebrate it with full of hearts here. We have been twice champions of IPL and ISL leagues.

Eating options: Kolkata is a place where you can get real cheap food as well as great joints. So whatever your budget, you can easily get food of your choice.

Bandh (Strike) has different meaning here. All shops, public transports including trains are stopped on a strike day so be prepared.

Overall it is a crowded but fun and friendly city. No matter from wherever you belong, you will never feel stranger here. Visit once here and i guarantee you'll take this city with you in your heart.

The City Of Joy

Kolkata

Kolkata (spelled Calcutta before 1 January 2001) is the capital city of the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the second largest city in India after Mumbai. It is on the east bank of the River Hooghly. When it is called Calcutta, it includes the suburbs. This also makes it the world's 8th largest metropolitan area as defined by the United Nations. Kolkata served as the capital of India during the British Raj until 1911. Kolkata was once the center of industry and education

Interesting facts of KOLKATA

Whenever we claim of knowing a place perfectly, we basically rejoice in knowing only the locally known facts. None of us actually do a deep research and delve into the not-so-known aspects of the place.Well, let’s do that now, and what’s a better place than Kolkata to start with: the perfect amalgam of old world charm and modernity.

 1.  Move over Mumbai and Bangaluru; in terms of area covered, Kolkata is the second-largest city in India, after New Delhi.
